Game Design Reducing PC Piracy "Inflating Identity Theft"

Game Review

Game Review
The PC Gaming Alliance president says that game design is reducing piracy, while also increasing the instances of online identity theft. New PC Gaming Alliance president Matt Ployhar recently spoke to Gamasutra about the current state of the PC gaming industry. Ployhar points out that MMOs and free-to-play games are much harder to pirate than single-player titles.

The increase in these kinds of titles and bonuses is actually decreasing PC piracy, Ployhar believes. "So what's happening is game design is shifting and as a result of shifting game design, piracy, at least on the PC side, is actually declining as a result," he says.

The PC is the most famous format when it comes to videogame piracy. "There are stats that do corroborate that," claimed PCGA president Matt Ployhar. For example, you get a game like Crysis that got hit hard by piracy. "So even if you pirate the game you're still not getting the bragging rights. I think the use of Achievements and in-game content has definitely been effective in battling piracy to some extent, and it's something I applaud.

Just days after the PC version of high-profile shooter Crysis 2 was leaked onto the internet, forcing developer Crytek to issue a statement that said "piracy continues to damage the PC packaged goods market and the PC development community", one group has claimed PC game piracy is actually on the decline.

"In some cases the crack was done days before the game ever even hit retail shelves. You can't really pirate free to play. So what's happening is game design is shifting and as a result of shifting game design, piracy, at least on the PC side, is actually declining as a result."

Following Crytek 2's leak online the game industry made its anti-piracy stance clear. The Association for UK Interactive Entertainment (UKIE) told Eurogamer piracy "poses a very real threat to the UK's games industry".

For example, you get a game like Crysis that got hit hard by piracy. "So even if you pirate the game you're still not getting the bragging rights. Digital rights management is one method game publishers use to try to protect their games from piracy.

'Magicka,' 'Dead Space 2' on Your PC

Game Review

Game Review "magicka"
Adventure game genre there is no death to continue to innovate, apalgi for games that can be played with a lot of players will certainly labih exclamation uh, one of the games that are now on the rise is a truly amazing magicka.

Put on your robe and wizard hat for Magicka, which has been spellbinding PC games download charts with its multiplayer hocus pocus. Released January 25, by January 31 it had become the week's best-selling title on Steam and GamersGate, placing second on Direct2Drive.

Despite Magicka's satirical tone, comparisons with action-adventure classic Diablo are easy to make - just as was the case with 2009's single-player hit Torchlight, which gets its own multiplayer sequel mid-2011.
Dead Space 2 was the week's other big release, charting on Steam, Direct2Drive and Impulse.

The gory shooter also includes a multiplayer mode but it's the horrors of single-player survival that are generating a buzz as impressive presentation, cinematic sound, and tight pacing combine to generate moments of true terror.

RIFT's pre-order momentum is accompanied by advance payments for Total War: Shogun 2, both due out in March, while customers at Good Old Games take advantage of an offer on the Myst series.

Crysis 2 Demo Visiting PC Soon

Game Review

Game Review
Crytek has already made it known that they believe they’re the only ones who could bring a game as visually impressive as Crysis 2, so the game may just set a brand new benchmark for PC performance. The news came via Crytek’s  twitter account, and while the studio’s announcement was short on details, they’re no doubt hoping that the concession will repair the bridges they burned when revealing the ‘exclusive’ Xbox demo of the upcoming game.

Hopefully the PC demo will arrive sooner rather than later, and it has to be assumed that Crytek is well aware of how PC fans must have reacted to being left out in the cold, especially after the CEO voiced his opinion that PC gaming was leaving consoles in the dust.

Gamers everywhere will have the chance to powerslide into action when Crysis 2 is released on March 22 for the Xbox 360, PS3, and PC. The hint of annoyance that followed Crytek's announcement of an Xbox 360-exclusive demo for Crysis 2 earlier this week was predictable. Why make a demo exclusive to one platform, especially when, publicity purposes notwithstanding, it's the platform that least needs it? "Stay tuned for more details."

The studio also explained why the demo was announced as 360-only, with no mention of platforms. There's also no word about when the PC demo will be available; Ebsworth said only that it will come out "before Crysis 2 is released."

Crytek recently announced that PC gamers would also be getting a beta for the game sometime before launch.  "At this time, Crytek & EA are glad to confirm that we'll be releasing a pre-launch Crysis 2 multiplayer demo on PC! Stay tuned for details.
