Latest Xbox Live Update

Game Review
Xbox Live Update
It’s time to dig through some Spare Parts in the Xbox Live Arcade this week. To defend themselves, they’ve got to scour the planets for parts. Microsoft brought back the “Boot to Disc” option in the 360 dashboard. Your Xbox Live gamercard has also undergone a slight redesign.
One of 2010’s most acclaimed games, Red Dead Redemption, is now available in Games on Demand. The Deal of the Week is on the critically acclaimed tower defense game Plants vs. Zombies. The sale runs through January 24, 2011.

Don’t forget Windows Phone 7 games are now part of the Xbox Live experience, complete with achievements. Coming to your Windows Phone this week are puzzlers iBlast Moki and 3D Brickbreaker Revolution. iBlast Moki allows you to detonate bombs to solve physics-based puzzles. Brickbreaker Revolution is $2.99.

Plants vs. Zombies will be available for 800 MSP (AU$13), a saving of 33%. Please remember that all Deal of the Week specials are exclusive to Xbox Live Gold subscription holders. Spare Parts will be available to download tomorrow night for a reasonable 800 MSP (AU$13). This original robotic platformer features the vocal talents of Simon Pegg; you probably associate him with zombie slaying and law enforcement, but now he's playing the part of a spaceship's computer. Make sure to check PALGN tomorrow when the big EA sale is revealed.

Xbox Update Feature
Game Review
Microsoft's mandatory Xbox 360 update, issued yesterday, was described by the company as a fix for a known bug. This new movement from Microsoft has given a big blow to the pirated gaming table as there are gamers in large numbers who plat these titles through pirated copies.

According to reports the update may have a hidden agenda, as users with illegal pirate copies of the game have found themselves unable to play the game since updating.

Strangely, according to posts by pirates on the Xbox-Scene forums, only Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Call of Duty: Black Ops appear to be affected so far.
Microsoft are yet to officially comment whether the update is responsible for such incompatibility issues. Alternatively it might just be karma striking back...

Xbox 360 Update
The Xbox 360 mandatory dashboard update yesterday did more than just re-enable the boot to disc option. Microsoft secretly went ahead and also updated its anti-piracy feature that caused both Call of Duty Black Ops and Modern Warfare 2 pirated copies to cease working. Users posting on the Xbox-Scene forum yesterday noticed suspicious activity after the update went live.
Yesterday's Xbox 360 Dashboard Update snuck into unsuspecting software pirate's consoles yesterday rendering some of the most popular games available on the Xbox 360 unplayable.  The Xbox 360 hacking scene was turned on it's ear with the recent update and much like the PlayStation 3 community has it's GeoHot a public figurehead of the community, the Xbox 360 has it's own as well.
Microsoft released a mandatory update for the Xbox 360 yesterday that allows gamers to once again automatically boot a pre-inserted game by powering up the system. Engadget spotted a posting on the Xbox modding web site Xbox-Scene that indicates Microsoft's sneak attack worked.
