The game was developed by Treyarch, the same people that brought us Call of Duty 2 and Call of Duty: World at War. The game teleports players back to theCold War era between the United States and Soviet Russia. The game interlaces the actual gaming experience with Mason’s recollections of crucial events in his covert missions as it progresses and retrogresses through different timelines.
The game play of Black Ops is linear and scripted. Also, checkpoints along the mission offer breathing points as well as save points. Perhaps one area where Black Ops distinguishes itself is the level of visual details throughout the game scenario. Explosions and fires utilize the game’s lighting engine with full effect. Truly, Black Ops presents itself as a game superior in the graphics department.
The voice acting in Black Ops is superb; it is as if the characters themselves are alive and speaking to the gamer. The sound effects of the game, together with its graphical presentation, create a cinematic effect on players.
The game controls are easy to learn---for a gamer. The single-player campaign is not without faults. The real beef of Black Ops is its multiplayer. The CoD points earned are different from the experience points; they can be spent regardless of the player’s level.
This map pack came with 4 new mulitplayer maps (Discovery, Stadium, Kowloon, Berlin Wall) and one new zombie map (Ascension). So lets jump into the new goodies to grace the Ascension map. Unlike the other item drops that are rewarded to all players, this one is only awarded to the player that picks it up. PHD Flopper allows players to not take any splash damage or fall damage. Stamin-Up gives players a faster unlimited sprint which is very useful in escaping hordes of zombies.
Black Hole Bombs are by far the coolest thing to be introduced into the zombie mode. These niffty little devices create a black hole that sucks zombies into its dark vortex. Overall, Ascension is by far the best zombie map created for a Call of Duty game. There also tons of easter eggs hidden in the Ascension map that players will have to take the time to discover.
